KayBee Kesar Mango

Desi Mango - Desi Review

Mango Review

**Name:** Kaybee Kesar Mango

**Manufacturer:** Kaybee

**Type:** Kesar

**Price:** $29.99 for a pack of 9 at Patel Brothers

**Verdict:** Neutral

**Manufacturer's Note:** Kay Bee Exports, an Indian mango shipper, recently introduced a Kesar mango program with Costco Japan. Kesar mangoes, originating from the Gujarat region of India, are known for their saffron-like color. Large, oval-shaped, and elongated with a thin, smooth skin that ripens from green to golden yellow, Kesar mangoes boast saffron-colored pulp. Slightly smaller than Alphonso mangoes, they exhibit a distinctive fragrance and offer sweet, juicy, and fiberless flesh. Enjoy them peeled and sliced, added to fruit salads, smoothies, yogurt, or pureed for a delightful treat.

**Review:**

Being a mango enthusiast, I eagerly anticipate the mango season each year. Recently, I ventured into exploring mangoes imported from India, particularly the Kesar variety. While they are pricier than those from Spanish countries, renowned brands like Marathon have always delivered a sweet taste during the mango season. This time, I opted for Kesar Mangoes, known for being among the sweetest mangoes available. Mangoes come in various varieties, and Kesar mangoes, also called Gir Kesar or Indian mangoes, hail from the Girnar foothills in Gujarat, India. Medium-sized and oval-shaped, they feature thin skin and sweet, juicy flesh, turning golden yellow with an orange tinge when ripe.

The Kesar mangoes were good, offering a pleasing flavor, fragrance, and texture. However, the high price made me question their value compared to mangoes imported from Spanish countries. Despite being aware of different qualities, the Kesar mangoes from India, even from street vendors, seemed sweeter. If you're craving sweet mangoes and your local market lacks options, Kaybee Kesar Mangos are worth considering. Prices can vary, starting around $40 at the beginning of the season and dropping to approximately $12 towards the end or during surplus stock.

**Best Features:** Fragrance and sweetness

**Would I buy it again?** - No. While my local market provides sweet mango varieties, I would explore other mango qualities exported from different regions like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.
